A nursery of two thousand new stars

Stars are born inside huge clouds of gas and dust. Hubble photographed one such nursery known as LH 95. It holds about 2,500 young stars still growing toward adulthood. The new image shows these stars keep pulling in material as they form. That means their growth is slower and messier than a neat snapshot suggests. Scientists use scenes like this to learn how stars, including our own sun, first take shape. The glow is thousands of years old by the time it reaches us.
