When a star like our sun dies, it leaves a small dense core called a white dwarf. Astronomers studied a planet circling one of these dead stars. In its air they detected tiny floating particles and hydrocarbon gases. That is a rare and detailed look at such an exotic world. Planets around white dwarfs are hard to find and harder to study. This reading helps scientists picture what these strange survivors are made of. The work is a new paper, shared for other experts to check.
