Astronomers found a planet about the size of Neptune but puffed up and hot. Its air is swollen far beyond what you would expect. The team thinks it began as a much larger, Jupiter sized world. Over time it lost a great deal of gas and shrank into what we see now. That story helps explain how some odd planets came to be. It is a fresh paper offering a possible path from giant to inflated Neptune. Other scientists will test the idea.
