A hidden weakness in a deadly cancer

Some of the deadliest cancers grow fast and shrug off treatment. A study from UCLA looked at small cell cancers that have lost a gene called RB. The team found these tumors lean heavily on one protein named E2F3 to survive. Take that protein away and the cancer loses a crutch it cannot replace. This hidden weakness could become the target of a new drug. The work is early, but it shows a fresh way to fight tumors that usually escape.
